As a native french speaker from Montreal, I can somewhat confirm this.
However, the issue here is not to learn or not to learn french.
What we are looking for is mere respect of the french langage.
And, sad but true, you often feel less respect of french langage
from anglo-canadians than american visitors...
As far as OM shopping is concerned, the two largest Olympus photo stores
in Montreal are "York camera" on Ste-Catherine street, and "Camera Simon"
on Notre-Dame. They both have a large selection of used Olympus stuff.
The pricing is generally high, even if you consider the currency exchange
and tax rebate.
Some price examples:
mint 65-200/f4 zoom for $375 cdn (Simon)
mint 18mm/f3.5 for $1200 cdn (Simon)
mint 50mm/f3.5 macro $350 cdn (York)
I'll be happy to provide more info on stores or Montreal in general.
I moved from Montreal to New Jersey 4 years ago and I miss the food,
the culture, the low cost of living, and the low car insurance cost... :-)
I must be the only one in New Jersey who religiously puts snow tire in winter.
Old habits die hard...
