Lars,

Use of standard linear polarizers while spot metering throws
off the metering.  This is due to the split beam mechanism
employed in the spot metering mode.  (Autofocus cameras use
a split beam mechanism as well and require circular
polarizers for the same reason.)  There is no difference in
performance between linear and circular polarizers in the
other metering modes for OM spot metering bodies.  However,
circular polarizers are required for proper spot/multi-spot
metering.
