Some just work better than others. (If I had a Sherpa, I might have comparison 
shots with the PL 100-400.)

Oddly enough, no more than slightly darkening the background. I'm not above blurring backgrounds; do it all the time. But not needed here.

On another note, decided on a trip to near Moosehead lake in a class 3 Bortle
