Thanks, Wayne.  Your assumption would be correct. The tails are frequently missing, after contact with birds.

Looks good Jim. Your persistence is inspiring. My eye is drawn to the bottom 
part of the wings. I assume the 'tails' on the wings is where it gets its name.
