Gray squirrels can demolish an overhead fiber cable if they can find a
limb to perch on. It happened behind my house, and caused me to lose a
nice, tall row of hollies.

It definitely can take more than a few hours to splice a few hundred
fibers. We had an outage like that up here where a meth lab in a
Winnebago blew up and roasted the aerial cable.
