I was just looking over some film scans. Without a doubt, Portra 160
or 400 is the way to go. The colors are slightly better with 160 for
flowers, but 400 has a smoothness that is uncanny. Portra 400 is what
the the previous version of Portra 160NC used to be as far as grain is
concerned. Kodak split the difference between VC and NC with the new
formulations and made it fully adjustable for color.

Use both. Portra 160 for the bright daylight stuff, and 400 for
everything else. If you want to use just one film, pick either one,
but I'm likely to say 400 because of how it interacts with the Nikon
scanner.

The Fuji 400H film has better capture of African Violets, but the
grain structure is definitely not as nice as Portra.
