I'm also a skeptic on that triangle thing, but it does make sense when
you consider the number of people who come up here and just disappear.
Suicide by Frontier or Suicide by Bear. Go fishing, get really drunk,
pass out, get eaten, end of story.

It really is a BIG wilderness. In the Lower-48, when you have a
national park, it's surrounded by people, farms, cities, etc. Up here,
the national parks are surrounded by even more wilderness. Consider
that the approximately 700,000 people in Alaska are concentrated in
the Greater Anchorage and Fairbanks metros, that you get some
perspective. BIG towns have a hundred people living in them and it
might be 200 miles to the next one. If Eagle River was a stand-alone
city, it would be something like the third largest city in Alaska.

Anchorage has a huge homeless population. Especially among the Native
Alaskans. But to put it in perspective, living in a tent in one of the
city parks (forested with bike trails running through) isn't all that
bad considering that it may still be better living conditions than the
villages they came from. It's a whole lot easier to forage for food
(stores, panhandling, etc.,) in Anchorage.
