Hmmm, for flexibility in positioning for macro will concede the contest. F15
vs a Piper. The Gitzo EX series is more a standard pod with an extra trick
but the Uni-Lock designed from ground up for flexibility in positioning.
The center column is almost like a magic arm with the second joint. Is it
carbon fiber?

I'm supposing that the lighter one should be sufficient for my current gear. I'm not using lenses like the 100-400, and
my camera bodies are relatively small and light.

Choice was pretty simple; what's on the 'Bay? There were a Major 1220 and this
S1700. The 1220 is pretty short.

The US price list from 2009 is $349. I have no idea if there is still a NoAm
distributor or what a current price might be.
There seems to be a slightly more compact one, though is shorter.
