Hi Chris,
I believe that the focal length is still 500mm, but the field of view is
equivalent to that of a lens of 750mm. The glass doesn't change, but
it sees less because of the cropped sensor.
We have what I have always heard referred to as an English Sparrow, with
fewer stripes and a black throat. Then our common Sparrow is around,
with fewer stripes and a lighter throat.

Presumably, Jim, that’s an effective focal length of around 750mm – with that
sensor.
That little bird looks quite similar to the House Sparrow over here.

With the shoulder stock for support, I decided to see what I could do with a
longer lens combination. I added the Leica 2X Extender to the 250 Telyt-R,
giving me a reach of 500mm. I spotted a twin-jet on the usual route to
Atlanta, and then saw a Song Sparrow sneaking through the grass and leaves,
daring me to spot him. I have one shot where he is looking me squarely in the
eye, but liked this one better.

Both are cropped, of course.
