I know that.

I was not thinking about metering circuits, nor about the Spotmatic.

From an early post in this thread, I understood the ME Super to be similar to the OM-2(n), in using an electronically actuated shutter. The problem Oly ran into is a drop in voltage when the electromagnet is activated with less than new alkaline batteries. If their internal resistance then means they can't maintain the needed current, the magnet will release the second curtain prematurely, resulting in an incorrect exposure.

Oly dealt with this problem by aborting the exposure if the voltage is too low, leaving the mirror up and the camera locked up until released manually or by inserting new batteries.

I have no idea how the Pentax deals with this potential problem. I simply thought that with a used camera of this sort of design, apparently locked up, that is would be silly to use alkalines at first, particularly dirt cheap ones, thus introducing a secondary potential cause of malfunction. Once one knows it works, and perhaps has more info about appropriate batteries, sure, go with whatever.
