Brian,

I have no information on the E-3. On page 63 of the E-1 manual, there are instructions for setting shutter speed and aperture manually. This works on my E-1, with an autofocus lens installed. I can read the shutter speed and aperture on the top screen. With the lens removed, shutter speed is still there, but, of course, aperture disappears, as would be the case with a manual lens.

Hi all,
Coming briefly out of rare lurk mode to vet frustration at what seems to be
incomplete or inadequate instructions for having total control in manual
mode.

With the two planets close together (and a full moon) as they have been for
the last 10 days or so I thought I'd grab a few shots myself.

My chosen lens was the Zuiko 300/4, and from data I added to previous
shots using FastStone Image Viewer, what worked for me was ISO 320.
aperture f/11, shutter speed 1/500.

With that in front of me I tried setting up the E-3. Try what I may, and
following the manual, I was totally unable to set the shutter speed.
In mounting frustration I turned to the E-1, charged the battery, and followed
the manual instructions.

With both cameras, where it explains which dial you turn to vary shutter
speed, the shutter speed did not show anywhere, and I was thus unable to
set it.
Total frustration. It's not important in the wider scheme of things that I do
this
but when it's possible, why not? I wondered if some function in the E-3 was
corrupted; but when the E-1 did the same, I concluded that some vital
instruction / system setting was just not being shown to b=me to follow.
Cheers, Brian
