British cars used to be ‘crap’, Chris, but I’m not talking about the 
reliability of the cars.  I had always accepted that American cars would last 
much longer than their European counterparts; rust was a serious problem in the 
UK for years during the early part of my driving life.

No, it’s the style and design to which I am referring and about which I am 
expressing an opinion.  I saw a Dodge Ram on Saturday, probably owned by a US 
serviceman, and it looked ghastly – just as an example.

And why are my apostrophes not reading well in your post, quoted below?  Have 
you sabotaged them?  You know that I’m sensitive about my apostrophes (as well 
as others’) . . . :-)
