Bob, your story is almost identical to my own, which I find quite amazing.
There's some difference in details, but that's about it. And I also, am
mostly a beer as food and one scotch an evening sort of guy, now.
And to Paul: Whisk(e)y is definitely an acquired taste, IMO. For me, the
incentive to keep trying different varieties was the fact that so many
folks consistently praised one brand or another. Eventually, I found a few
I liked.
