One point that my experience suggests that you should bear in mind. My
4 year old (Sony) TV in the UK seems fussy about the type of .jpg
   offered to it!
Thus, I have an ethernet link to it from the household computer network
and can view pictures stored on the computer hard-drives (after
arranging the necessary permissions). BUT, it will only show some of
my pictures, and reports others to be 'inaccessible' or similar. I
think the same happens if the pictures are on a USB stick. I have not
identified the cause of this effect but believe the inaccessible ones
are ones which I have edited in some particular way.
As far as I know, the problem does not arise if I run a slideshow on a
laptop and connect the latter to the TV with an HDMi cable. Thus I
assume it is something to do with my TV's software, possibly similar to
that which I met long ago when trying to play CD's on a Philips
portable CD player which I came to believe would not accept CD's which
did not conform to a Philips patent ie a DRM issue.
Perhaps you should attempt to try a selection of your .jpgs on any TV
before buying, and not rely on a demonstration using .jpgs selected by
the salesperson - difficult if you cannot buy locally.
I would be interested to know if any other listee has had similar
   problems.
