For a while in the early days I used a word processor called XYwrite, or some 
such. It emulated the interface of the ATEX front-end program we used at the 
newspaper. DOS based, command line formatting, etc. I wonder if it’s still 
being used. I believe they developed a Windows version with the whole 
command-line, blank-screen interface.
