Our German Shepherd doesn't do snakes. She is great against coyotes,
possums, squirrels, and racoons but snakes are too sneaky for her. A
mongoose is a great idea. I'm not sure there are any in South Carolina,
though! You would think the geese would be able to protect their own, but
we interrupted a black snake trying to swallow a goose egg from the nest
and the goose pair were just hissing at it. We caught one in the guinea
house that looked like it had swallowed an egg but when we cut it open, it
was a golf ball that I put in the nest boxes to encourage the chickens to
lay there. The snake would have died anyway trying to process the golf
ball! I've put several more out in the hope that the remaining snakes will
be tempted to swallow them.
