Ah, but the A1's ISO isn't quite accurate, either. ISO 100 is actually
160 (based on midtone), 200 is 320. Beyond that, I'm less likely to
use it. I rarely use it at 400, but it does give another 1/3 stop gain
or so. It's hard to tell at taht point because the noise floor starts
to skew everything.

But set to ISO 200, wide-open, the A1 probably would have done just
fine. And it is nearly silent other than faint clicks.

I've used the A1 a ton for this exact type of application. What I have
learned is to overshoot because you're always fighting the shutter-lag
and also you are fighting subject motion. It can take me 4x as many
shots to get an acceptable one compared to a regular DSLR, but the
near silence and the flexibility of the lens outweigh the
disadvantages in those circumstances.
