What model Dell? My Dell of the same vintage (an E510) runs 64-bit windows
and apps fine, but the motherboard only supports 4GB RAM max. Of course,
more RAM is the main reason for going 64-bit in the first place. My son and
I recently built matching PCs from scratch - it turned out to be easier than
I thought.

Yes, I was disappointed to find that my great big Dell desktop (about 7
years old) doesn't support 64 bits. I thought it would with just a change
in memory. 64 bits wasn't exactly unknown in 2005 but the extra bits aren't
even on the buss. Moving up and installing more that 4GB memory will require
a new machine. Argh.
