Steve,

You are only talking about 1/16" difference. Is there sufficient metal to allow 
drilling out the crank and have it threaded to fit the newer pedals?

Steve,

You are most likely out of luck. I am guessing your Schwinn is using an 
older ashtabula crank with 1/2" pedal thread. Current 9/16" won't fit 
and there is no adapter available. Probably time to upgrade to something 
more modern.
