Obviously less potential in the fly-over states, but most people live along
the coasts anyway.

But what about those of us that don't live on a coast? The state of New
Mexico has purchased a substantial chunk of former Santa Fe line, and it
currently offers commuter service in the Albuquerque area. That line has
potential for service to Denver and perhaps farther north. If realized, it
could be quite popular.

A line from Minneapolis through Omaha or Des Moines to Kansas City, could
connect with the proposed service from Oklahoma City to Kansas City through
Wichita which is an extension of the current train from Dallas to Oklahoma
City. Extend that to Houston through Austin and San Antonio, and again, a
big deal.

Those tracks don't allow speeds over 80mph currently, but often ran faster
in olden days.
