Thanks,

the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 - PACE Code A

was an interesting read, I will study it more when I have time, whilst
I normally try not to antagonise its always good to know your rights.

Having recently had to pay 1000Chf for being honest, I accidentally hit
a metal frame protecting a tree and as I had to get home because the
nurse was leaving and Cai was with his grandfather - I need to be there
just in case, I drove off. later I went back to inspect and it was
obvious it had been hit so I asked my wife to phone the council next day
to offer to pay for repairs. They insisted she must phone the police. I
should add there was no damage at all visible on yolandy. My wife then
phones me later saying I have to go the police they want to prosecute me
for leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it. I should add
this was at a roadside carpark and not actually on the road.

I spent a few hours with the police all very civil and explained all and
that I was not aware etc - under Swiss law you must report the same
calendar day (not within 24 hours like any normal country) so I ended up
with a fine and repair bill although I don't believe I did all the
damage to it (the police could find no marks on my vehicle) and since my
incident it was repaired and then someone else totally flattened it and
it has now been removed. I suspect I was the only one who owned to it
though. I just wish I could read German as things like the law interest
me and might have saved me from a Fine

Thanks Ian
