Mike,
   I seem to remember John H. emphasizing that it was very important to
tighten base plate screws in situations such as you are experiencing. If you
are missing screws on the bottom I believe you should have them replaced and
tightened before looking elsewhere for a problem. Perhaps John has some
spare screws.
