Hi Philippe,

The chip was supposed to provide focus confirmation and lens information to 
the camera software, by means of the contacts behind the lens mount ring.  I 
bought it separately from the adapter, and had trouble getting reliable 
electrical contact.  Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it did not.  I found 
that, with most manual lenses, I chose to ignore it.  When it locked up the 
shutter release, I figured it was time to remove it and use the adapter just 
like I do the one for the Leica-R lenses.
