What did the chip bring, or was supposed to?
I don't need one on the L1 - I've been using a plain vanilla adaptor 
cheap on the b*y for three years now.
And since I'm squinting at an E30 or E3 these days, hands-on experience 
reports might prove useful in the decision making process.
