As an update on my own question, I will recount what I have learned:
1. A short time ago I discovered that my autofocus system was set to Manual,
rather than C-AF.
2. I received feedback from Olympus Support pointing out that there is no
red dot when Manual is selected.
3. I reset the system to C-AF and all appears normal.
4. I can only assume that something that I did while using Live View
yesterday caused the system to change to Manual. I previously learned
that C-AF will not work in Live View.

Thanks for all of the comments.
