Piers,

The Oly website which I accessed only mentions the one year warranty.  I 
have sent them a query, will see what they say.  Thanks.

There is something else going on with the red spots.  I had always selected 
center focus only, so the center one was the only one active.  However, from 
time to time, the dot would glow brightly without the shutter release being 
pressed.  I seem to recall that this indicated that the autoexposure system 
was locked up. A half-press of the shutter release always brought it back to 
normal.  Now, I just frequently do a half-press of the release to be sure 
all is ok.  Autoexposure seems to work correctly.
