John,
In my case, it was purely a case of economics. Digital equipment is
desirable because I haven't had a darkroom in more than forty years, and
don't take a lot of images. At the size that images are normally displayed
on the web, it is difficult to detect the differences in quality in any
case.
It works for me. YMMV
