Are you talking about the original 16-35 or the 16-35 II? In Mike
Hatam's tests referred to by Moose
<http://www.16-9.net/lens_tests/18mm_testb.html>
the Zuiko 18 outclassed the 16-35 and the Contax Zeiss 18. But the
16-35 II demonstrates a come back for Canon with a lens that finally
bests the Zuiko 18 and Leica 19 in most categories.

But, even though it's a significant improvement over the older lens
designs it still can't resolve to the corners of a 13MP 5D sensor let
alone the much higher pixel count stuff available now.
-----------------------------------------
However well the 16-35L acquits itself, we shouldn't forget that even on
the lowly 5D, the shiny new Mark II still doesn't have the legs to
perform in the outer image circle. At no aperture did the lens deliver a
truly credible Zone C (corner) and that's a problem the next generation
of full frame sensors is likely to exploit without mercy.
