My wife insisted on a Honda Element. After test driving the automatic 
versions at the dealer, I insisted on the manual version. I later realized 
that the automatic version gets 2-3 mpg better mileage.

That is because the rear-end ratio is different, and why the automatic 
version can't get out of its' own way.
