I am no Pen expert, but in favour of it being an original Sanko Shoji made
Pen, David, it has a 28/3.5 lens, it has what looks to be a pre-Olympus
style shutter release with side-to-side grooves, and it has black rather
than grey leatherette.
On the other hand, the lens outer ring has a white line around 270degrees,
rather than having flash range markings opposite the aperture markings,
whoch I think was a feature of the Sanko Shoji Pen.
My bet is that it is a very early Olympus-assembled Pen made using parts
from Sanko Shoji. John Foster's page has some helpful hints:
