Roger,

I suspect the body of the lens is different due to the focus by wire design
and its need for more components. In use the lens doesn't seem to be bulky
at all. I nearly had a convert to SLR photography last night due to this
lens. The chap in question is looking to move up from a P&S. He had seen the
pair of E-300's that I organised for the school and wondered if he would get
along with one. We had a great hour playing with the lens herd, I even
dragged the 300mm out so he could get a grasp on reaching out and touching
something. In the end I think he is going to wait for now but the
forthcoming live view options may be the push over for him I think.

Maybe LV will be the new bridging feature for people to ease between stages?

Thanks Daniel and Moose,

I had noticed the great similarity in element formation, including the
placement of the ED and aspheric elements, in my book of Four-Thirds lenses.

Funny about the fatter outer dimensions though.
