Hi all,

Thanks for the comments on the Minolta Dimage. There is one available for
sale in this city at a Cash Converters, and they have put it up for auction.
Start price is about $US 200, but I have no idea what the reserve is. I might
call in to the shop and see what the floor price is.

It won't run with W'95, but it seems possible that I might be inheriting my
son's machine some time soon (he is moving to Wellington and will be
flatting with an old friend who has lots of computer contacts since he works
for our equivalent of Homeland Security in the data / analysis / etc area, and
expects to be able to get a good machine for not very much through him). He
is running XP on it but he might just take the HDD with him, as it has lots of
his stuff on it.. However, I can pick up lesser O/S systems for not too much.

I'm using an HP Photosmart at the moment and it's nice (and its own
software works really well), but I see all too often in the prints, fine
scan-lines
and long zones of diffuse funny fuzzy that must be coming from the scanner.

Such defects will probably become more important to me soon as I am
starting to work with bigger prints as I am trying to sell prints.

Actually, close inspection of prints produced at the Fuji lab where I get my
stuff printed also shows fine scan-lines on big prints from 35mm negatives -
which I think isn't good.

Brian
