The VFC feature was exclusive to two of the original Minolta manual focus
mount lenses. The one I have is the 24mm f2.8 but it was also incorporated
into their 35mm shift lens. The VFC mechanism alters the position of the
internal elements to create a curve in the plane of focus. It curves around
the center of the lens either away from or towards the camera. The intention
is to allow some of the DOF effects that are possible with view camera
movements.
