This is totally out of left field, but what size are the legs? I see a lot
of photographers that are wedded to tripod use, but use what I would
consider tripods that are too light and flimsy.
The ultimate solution to your problem is probably one of the wooden leg
tripods, but isn't money always the answer?
I use either a Tiltall or a Gitzo 320. Both have fairly substantial legs,
and I consider them the minimal size.
