And perhaps the very reason why you chose the subject.

But whether "Nature is not always so cooperative being pushed into our
preconceived notions" might be a matter of some deep philosophical
discussion, as AG hoped. Originally written in Latin, I cannot exactly quote
it right now because the book is in my wife's consulting room and cannot
interrupt her, but it's more or less as follows: There's nothing in the mind
that has not previously been in the senses. Therefore, even 'preconceived
notions' must have been first presented to perception, and then conceived or
not. Should stop now, Merleau-Ponty book is in my own consulting room, as is
Husserl's, and really I don't want to get into them again _ and complex and
far-fetched psychoanalitical discussions following the nature of perception,
the significance of memory and the status of consciousness/unconscious.
