It would be interesting to know the reason some cameras attract dust.
Here in New England, this past week or so, the static electricity has
been very high. Getting in and out of the car is the worst. Any number
of things might cause a sudden increase in sensor dust. My camera does
not have any significantly more dust now than 6 months ago. Who knows,
maybe the fabric of the camera bag is causing the problem. Some
plastics, when exposed to high electrostatic charge, develop a
permanently charged electric field. If you make the plastic conductive,
that may just conducts the static charge into the shutter? Maybe moist
climates have less of an issue. It is a hard problem to analyze. Maybe
there is a proper way to store digital cameras to reduce dust and
static charge issues?

What performance is good enough? A few years ago I was happy shooting
my OM-4t and scanning slides. I thought it was great. If I go back and
look at the scans now and compare them with what I can get digitally
today, there is no question in my mind digital is now really good,
amazingly good. I miss the OM4t and I experience grief at the loss of
those days of shooting film. I can sometimes hear the OM's haunting cry
of loneliness in my closet. But when my mind turns to wanting to get a
picture today, I go for the best performance and convenience I can.

And talk about dust issues with scanning... I was scanning some old
slides of mine taken years ago. Now dust in the scanner is creating
halos around everything. Dust with my old film and my scanner is far
worse than anything I have seen with any of my digital cameras. I just
hope those digital bits don't fade with time like my old slides are.
(And yes I would scan them in ASAP, but they are not in my possession
at the moment)
