Best way to do that, I've discovered is to get a unit with a good AF
focus assist light and use the light like a flashlight to illuminate
the subject before firing. I got that possum when I couldn't really
see it unassisted, with the Canon S2 IS (nice, strong green light).
Of course, you have to be able to get fairly close.
