True. Most succumb to car tires or family dogs--and to being incredibly
unintelligent. They are ubiquitous, however, and very, very adaptable,
so they reproduce in fairly high numbers. The official Urban Forester
for Hollywood once paid our neighborhood association a visit, and
brought a captive-raised one along. It was considered a very old
specimen at all of 4 years old.

While living in Hollywood one once came in through the cat-door at my
place. 'Twas very hard to get it back out again, as the poor dumb beast
hadn't sense enough even to trundle off in the direction it was being
encouraged (with a broom, gently, towards a wide-open door).

Is it true that the Virgina Opossum only live for a little over a year?
I seem to remember reading that somewhere.
