Perhaps. For my mind, I'd not be without them, though I've more
zooms than primes for my C*non. I've two primes for it. One is
the cheap, plastic (all but the glass), but optically good 50/1.8
that I'd probably replace with the 50/1.4 (a bit better optically,
but not 4x the price better, but I believe about 20x the construction).
I've been using the Oly-Odyssey OM1 this weekend, and forcing myself
to just stick with the lens that I've got the best (for me) photos
from in the past - the Zuiko 50/1.4. It's been such a pleasure to use
again. I'll have to wait for tomorrow to see if the pleasure has
the usual "Best before" (development) date on it.

If it wasn't for the contradictory reports, I think I'd be looking
at the Sigma 30/1.4 at this very moment for the C*non, to give me
that same focal length at least. I've a magazine to catch up on
(the UK's 'Black & White Photography', one of two photo mag's I
regulary buy) that has a review of it.

My experience with the New Year's Day pictures using the Zuiko 35/2.8
wasn't good. I just can't use the lens well. Couple that with getting
development done at a recommended store in the city that, I noticed when
I got the photos back, had written incorrectly "400"-speed on the
development slip (I don't know enough about development to know if
it is developed differently, and what affect this would have had), and
gave me all my prints in a muddy-brown black & white (it was 200-speed
colour print "consumer" film). I was so pissed off I swore not to use
film again ...but time has soothed that beast a little. Hopefully, my
Oly-Odyssey experience will placate me, this time developed at my old
faithful and favourite place at Parramatta, because I still can't help
loving using the OM1-50/1.4 combo.

The Oly-Oddysey OM1 is very noticably better than mine. It feels so
much "tighter" mechanically, in all its workings.

Anyway, I've wandered, it being Sunday night with my mind trying to
avoid sleep knowing it has to wake up to another damned Monday morning.

Cheers,
Marc
