>From human eye's perspective, the central detail of an image remains the
same *whatever* lens is used if the image is taken from the same spot. So
you could use an 8mm fisheye on a 35mm camera and a 500mm mirror lens on an
E-1, but on enlarging the centre of the 8mm image to match the image of the
500mm image, the perspective would be the same. Granted, there would be
other factors to make the difference obvious (such as film grain and
resolution limitations), but the look of the subject would be the same.
What alters the perspective is a change in the spot from which the
photograph is taken - it just happens that different focal lengths can
conveniently be used from different spots, and we have thus come to
associate different focal lengths with different perspectives, but it ain't
always so.
NB that I am here speaking about the central part of the image - do not
expect that you can get the same result from a mirror lens as you can with
an 8mm at the edges of the frame!
