I believe that the large U.S. brewers try to cater to the lowest 
common denominator. It's a bit like McDonalds. Which is fine, as long 
as there is room for the premium products. The same thing, more or 
less, is happening here in Brazil. Mass market beers are increasingly 
tasting the same, trying to be "easy to drink." But that strategy 
creates room for the niche producers.
