First, nice pictures! You've clearly got a fair knowledge of photography!

The OM-2 is a great camera for macro photography - one of the best 35mm
viewfinders ever produced, plus a light meter that reads the light off the film
during the actual exposure. A few folk have mentioned good starter gear - 90mm
macros etc, so I'll point you at some more advanced kit.

Possibly the best feature of the OM system for flower photography is the
Telescopic extension tube 65-116. Basically this is a bellows unit designed for
use in the field - even hand-held.

Olympus produced a range of lens heads that can be used either on the tele tube
(in the field) or on the bellows (in the studio). The most useful heads for
orchid photography would be the 135/4.5 and the 80/4. The 135 doesn't go up to
great magnifications but is ideal for shots of whole plants or blooms. The 80/4
can then be used to get closer, with the matched close-up filter it will cover
magnifications from 1/2 to twice lifesize when on the tele tube. It's also one
of the sharpest macros ever produced by any manufacturer. The 35/2.8 can then
be used at higher magnifications but this is fairly specialist stuff and tricky
in the field.

For lighting again the OM system excels. The T28 twin macro flash is ideal for
orchid photos - two heads that swivel around the lens to provide directional
and fill light, or there are two ring-flash units. All three use the same T
power control unit.

Film photography is considerably trickier than digital when up close - expect a
steep learning curve! Though with an adapter the lenes can all be used on the
e-system digi slrs now too... good luck!

Cheers,
Adam
