Thanks to everyone for the advice, suggestions, and examples, both on
and off list. With your help, I think I've got it pretty much ready to
print, with maybe another tweak or two when I get over being tired of
fooling with it. I'm amazed that some of you were able to accomplish as
much as you did with only an 8-bit, 159KB JPEG to work with. Scott came
very close to nailing it, and Moose was right behind. While I'm lacking
in the skill of many of you, I at least have the advantage of the
original 16-bit, 95MB TIFF scan to play with.
