Charles Grassley (and will get something similar out to Tom Harkin and
Jim Leach before day's end):
"Dear Senator Grassley:
I thanked a veteran today for his service, as I usually try to do to
on November 11, and I was asked by him in return to write to you to
ask you to do all that you can to bring about an end to US military
involvement in Iraq and to bring home our troops. I recall that you
opposed our involvement in the first Iraq war and I admired your
honesty and courage in doing so. Though I have always opposed this
current unprecedented invasion of Iraq, I understood that persons of
conscience did reluctantly support this invasion on the strength of
evidence of mounting and imminent hostility. We now know that that
evidence was faulty at best, or fraudulent at worst, and our continued
presence in Iraq does not remedy the outcome of a grave mistake but
steadily makes it worse and worse. I hope that I have honored a
veteran in writing to you and I sincerely ask your resolve on this day
in honoring his request: help to end this war and bring home our
troops. Thank you.
