Actually it turns out that they are only asking $1600 for the body at B&H so
it may be in reach of hygenists as well ;)

Thanks to Andrew for his message that poked me into actually looking it up.
There is a background section the Zeiss site that gives some history on the
pairing of CV and Zeiss. If I was in the market for a non Lei*a made M mount
camera the Ikon would be tempting (long baselength being the big one for
me).

LOL!!!  Not sure if the allusion is true outside of the U.S. but it
certainly applies here.
FWIW, a dentist I met years ago is a very fine photographer.  Charles
("CJ") Elfont by name.  He may even have retired so he could shoot full
time.  Specialized in Hummingbirds and Pretty Girls.  One of his students,
Vincent Versace is now better known than CJ.
