I forgot that you were a Mac user AndrewF!
I am afraid that it must be the battery, notwithstanding the fact
that you have replaced it. There is no part of the OS that makes
your time revert to the start of time (sort of pre-history in Oz
terms I suppose, or is that US? :-)).
I should leave the computer running until you can sort it out.
