I am running Nik*nScan 3.1 on WinXP with no problem whatever. I looked at
the upgrade, and saw no advantage since the additional features in Nik*nScan
4 are not available on the 4000ED (they require the 5000ED hardware).

The 4000ED connects using Firewire and the PCI card is included with the
kit, it was a five minute job to install.  If you are running WinXP you'll
need to download the Nik*n Scan 4 software from the Nik*n website (will
forward URL if needed).
