Gary,

Can't see that you did anything wrong here. Knowing that he was leaving the
country, he should have made proper arrangements for the delivery to be
accepted.

Presumably you do not want to be any worse off so why dont you offer to
re-list/sell it on his behalf ; if it makes same price or less then refund
sale price less your listing fees, if it makes more refund sale price and
keep excess as sales commission./handling.
