This is a Winders machine.  It gets rebooted every day to clear out the 
accumulated memory corruption.  Consequently, all drives run 
intermittently.  Power saving modes also turn the motors on and off and 
shut off much of the circuitry many times throughout the day.

I'm a flip the power on and off and shake out the bugs kind of guy.
