I have both an E-1 and C8080, as I suppose is well-known to
those who read my notes. I have to say I use the C8080 much
less after getting the E-1. That's mostly from trying to
get comfortable with the E-1 and because of the enjoyment I
get in using my Zuikos and Tamron on it.

The C8080 might have a distinct place, particularly in
circumstances where the lens range is useful and really good
quality handheld shots are going to be the rule of the day.
The viewfinder is quite good. After having the manual
zoom of the 14-54, I just wish the C8080 zoom were manual.
It's quite jerky and seems to move in fits and starts. Not
as precise as I'd like. But the camera is very good for
shooting high quality JPGs. Not that you can't do RAW, but
it is slow. RAW support is sort of middling and the files
are quite a bit larger than on the E-1, where RAW is just a
pleasure to use.

However, the quality of the C8080 is great and the superwide
TC (gives equivalent to about film 21mm) is fairly
affordable and indistinguishable in quality from the native
lens. While it doesn't compare to macro on the E-1 for ease
of use, the macro that the C8080 is capable of is just great.

I can certainly understand that the C8080 might surpass the
E300, but I believe the comparison in dpreview has the C8080
at ISO 50 and the E300 at 100, and there is also the factor
of the lens. I would have to say that the C8080 certainly
beats the E-1/14-54 combination in some instances. Also the
on-board flash C8080 is useful. But the E-1's an SLR with
all the advantages that brings.

Finish quality is similar between the two cameras. You
can't go seriously wrong either way, but the E-1 seems like
such a great value right now.
